This is a lovely little place and the bed was the most comfortable in all of Portugal (we stayed in 7 different places all around the country). The staff are very helpful. However, it says the rooms are "sound proofed" on their website and they most certainly are not. We had the unfortunate experience of being directly under the apartment of a family that own their unit. Chiado 44 does not own all of the units! On our second night there the family above us were entertaining guests and it was loud, especially the sound of furniture being moved across the floor, the building is old and has wood floors and you can hear the people above you moving around and even talking. We asked the front desk person to ask them to please be a little quieter and that's when we found out that those weren't other hotel guests above us but a private apartment and the hotel has no control over them. She did ask them if they could be quieter and that was a big mistake! The people above us were loud right up until the legal time limit (11pm) but that wasn't the worst. They then proceeded to make noise about every 45 minutes until 2am. They would stomp across the floor directly above our heads and then scrape a chair or something across the floor. They gave up doing this at around 2am but then they turned on a radio or the TV, just loud enough to be heard. On the third night everything was fine until 11:45pm when it sounded like they were playing a very loud electric guitar above us! Then they started in with the stomping across the room every 45 minutes or so and moving furniture. We left the next morning and had to book a room last minute at another hotel. It is too bad we had to leave, the location is great and the room was large and comfortable, we really liked it. If you book a room there be sure to stay away from room #101.

We stayed at this "hotel" for 4 days in the past week. It was not a pleasant experience. -The first day we arrived at the place, we were told that we were to stay at room 500's. There is no elevator in the hotel and there was not anybody to help carry our luggage so we had to carry them 6-7 levels. Imagine having to carry your own luggage 6 levels after a long flight. Why 6-7 levels you may ask; staying at 5th floor does not correspond to the actual 5th floor. After the entrance level, you have to climb up at least 6 or 7 levels, the 1st level does not have any room for the customers, 2nd level starts from rooms 101, 3rd level rooms 202, etc. you get my point. - The hotel is not a proper hotel but rather a run down building turned into a motel. The staircases are dirty and rundown. The hotel reeks of moldy smell. There is no proper lighting when you are climbing up the stairs. -When we first entered to our room at 500s, there was a terrible smell of industrial bleach. The room did not have a proper ceiling, it was like an attic. I have allergic asthma, it acted up due to conditions of the hotel. I kept coughing during my whole stay. -We asked to change rooms because there was no way we could climb up all those stairs every day, they said there was an opening next day. We changed rooms to 200s. When we arrived at the new room, there were head and body hair stuck on the bathroom walls and shower walls. The room was extremely dirty. The bed sheets had stains on them. The makeup towel (which is black) had foundation make up and hair smudges on it. -At the day of checkout when we told the hotel staff about these issues, they said that it is normal, sometimes the cleaning people do not clean the rooms properly. I was shocked to hear this as it was not a daily cleaning which we were talking about, it was the first time of checking in to a room. -We spent a lot of money to stay here, I don't advice anybody to come to this hotel, as it is not a hotel more like a hostel. It is not a value for money.

I’m so happy I chose this hotel for our 3 night stay in Lisbon. We had the room with 3 single beds for my husband, adult daughter, and me. The staff are helpful and so nice. The location is fantastic. It is close to wonderful restaurants and sightseeing. The room was perfect for the 3 of us. You have to climb stairs and we were on the top floor, but this was a minor inconvenience given all the other benefits.

Lovely hotel in the perfect location just steps from Praca Luis de Camoes, Chiado, Bairro Alto, and the Baixa-Chiado station. Even with this prime location, it is on a relatively quiet street so it is a peaceful refuge. The rooms are neat and clean and the bed was so comfortable. Our room also had a cute little balcony! Staff was so warm, welcoming, and helpful. Also the air conditioning was crisp and refreshing during the September heat wave. Highly recommend! One thing to keep in mind is there is no elevator and so you have to be willing to do some (very reasonable) stairs. The front desk staff was so helpful with bags!
